On November 15-17, 2019, within the framework of the 18th ASEAN Neurosurgery Conference, JVC and Hitachi introduced Intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) solution for neurosurgery to a large number of participants.
Neurosurgery is one of the most difficult and complicated specialized surgeries because cranial nerve interventions require millimeter-precision, lowest impacts to surrounding tissues, as well as require minimum loss of blood, release pain and risks of complications.
Currently, before the surgery, the patient will have an MRI of the brain to identify the location and boundary of the tumor. However, after opening the skull, the tumors will be dislocated due to the increase in intra-cranial pressure, which is difficult for the naked eye to determine the exact range of the tumor. After the surgery, the patient will have another MRI to determine whether the tumor is thoroughly eliminated. In some cases, patients need to be re-operated to remove the remaining lesions after the first surgery. This is time consuming and may miss the best treatment time. As for neurosurgery, time is a key factor to the success of surgery.
Therefore, the iMRI solution of Hitachi is considered a breakthrough in neurosurgery, helping doctors to thoroughly solve the above problems. Accordingly, the iMRI system enables magnetic resonance imaging while performing the surgery, providing real time information and images of the patient to assist surgeons in making decisions. In addition, the surgeon may perform an MRI scan to confirm the results immediately after the surgery to detect the risk of residual tumor.
In this Conference, JVC and Hitachi had the opportunity to introduce the iMRI solution to a large number of participants through its speech together with models, documents, video... In particular, the one operating room model displayed at the booth gave physicians a visual and easy-to-understand view of this solution.
Let's take a look at some of our photos at the Conference:
