Today, tuberculosis remains one of the most dangerous infectious diseases globally. Every day, nearly 30,000 people worldwide are infected and about 4,500 die from the disease. Vietnam is still among the top 30 countries with the highest TB burden in the world, ranked 16th in the number of people with high TB and the 15th with MDR-TB burden. However, in the past 10 years, the percentage of TB patients in our country has decreased by 31%, or 3.8%/year at average. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam is on its way to end tuberculosis. Vietnam owns most of necessary factors to end tuberculosis by 2030.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Vietnam is gradually establishing a financial mechanism to ensure tuberculosis prevention. To date, the funding for anti-tuberculosis activities in Vietnam is about USD60 million/year. It takes less than VND10 million to treat a TB patient, of which 2 million is for medicine. The Deputy Prime Minister hoped that the whole society would pay attention to and support the Patients Support Foundation to End Tuberculosis (PASTB), in order to realize the objective of detecting and treating 100% of people infected with tuberculosis from early stages of the disease.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam spoke at the Ceremony
Tuberculosis prevention is not a single effort of an individual or a family but a synergy of the whole society. Therefore, in this event, JVC expressed its support and companion with the Program with its meaningful and practical action, which was a VND200 million donation to Patients Support Foundation to End Tuberculosis (PASTB). After one year of PASTB’s establishment, this was the second time JVC donated to the Fund. This charitable act not only expresses JVC’s responsibility as an enterprise for community but also shows its heartful care for the healthcare sector.
